Privacy policy
This policy matches the scripts on the site today, 7 Nov 2026. Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity and Adsterra load on the first view without waiting for a click. The cookie banner tells you that and lets you withdraw: Reject turns all three off and remembers the choice for 180 days.
What loads, and who receives it
Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-ZDN4GJZRL8) counts page views and basic events. Microsoft Clarity (project z9vvmny08m) records heat maps and session replays so layout problems can be found; Clarity masks form input and other sensitive content by default. Adsterra (publisher 3403020, website 6182347) serves two placements: NativeBanner_1, unit 32140950, inside the article, and SocialBar_1, unit 32140951, a fixed bar at the bottom of the viewport.
The two Adsterra snippets are created by this site’s own loader once the document is ready. The initial HTML contains their URLs as strings only, so no ad script blocks the page. Clarity is created at the same point. On a first visit, and whenever no choice is stored, all three are treated as granted. Reject is the withdrawal path. Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track is treated as a rejection even before you click.
YouTube videos and the itch.io card on some pages are facades: the third-party frame is created only after you press play. Once it is created, YouTube (Google) and itch.io set their own cookies under their own policies, linked below.
What the browser stores
The site’s own keys are bm_consent and bm_float_closed in localStorage. bm_consent records whether measurement and ads are granted or denied and when you chose; it is kept for 180 days. bm_float_closed records that you used the × button on the floating Adsterra bar and stays until you clear site data or accept again. The footer button “Cookie settings” reopens the notice so you can change the choice at any time.
The vendors also set cookies and similar storage. The table lists the ones observed or documented for this site; an ad creative can set additional short-lived identifiers in its own frame.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| bm_consent | this site (localStorage) | Measurement and ad choice plus timestamp | 180 days |
| bm_float_closed | this site (localStorage) | Remembers that the floating ad bar was hidden | Until cleared |
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes browsers for aggregate reports | 2 years |
| _ga_ZDN4GJZRL8 | Google Analytics 4 | Keeps GA4 session state for this property | 2 years |
| _clck | Microsoft Clarity | Persists the Clarity user and session identifier | 1 year |
| _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Joins page views into one session replay | 1 day |
| MUID | Microsoft | Microsoft user identifier used by Clarity | 1 year |
| Adsterra / bicea.org cookies | Adsterra and its creative partners | Frequency capping, fraud checks, ad delivery | Set by Adsterra |
| YouTube cookies | youtube.com, after play | Video player preferences and playback | Set by YouTube |
| itch.io cookies | itch.io, after play | Embedded game card state | Set by itch.io |
Advertising, personalised ads, and opting out
Adsterra and the advertisers it works with may use cookies or local storage to limit repetition, measure a campaign and detect invalid traffic. The site does not ask for an account and does not sell personal data. Where personalised advertising applies, you can object through the Adsterra privacy policy at https://adsterra.com/privacy-policy/ and through the industry tools at https://www.youronlinechoices.com, https://optout.aboutads.info and https://adssettings.google.com.
The Adsterra line in /ads.txt is adsterra.com, 3403020, DIRECT. That seller ID is the publisher account that serves the two units named above; no other ad network is declared.
Default loading and how to withdraw
Measurement and advertising are on by default; the banner is a notice and a withdrawal control, not a gate. Press Reject and the site records the denial, removes the ad slots, sends a denied consent update to Google Analytics 4, and reloads the page to stop already running measurement and ad scripts. Subsequent pages do not load those scripts while the choice remains valid. The denied record is kept for 180 days. Press Accept, or use Cookie settings and Accept, to turn them back on.
You can also block scripts with a browser extension or a content blocker; the guide pages still render because none of these vendors is required for the content. Deleting the two localStorage keys resets the site to its default-on state on the next visit.
Legal basis, rights, and changes
Running the guide is a legitimate interest: publishing pages you requested. Measurement and advertising rely on your consent where the law requires it, and you can withdraw it at any time with Reject; the withdrawal does not affect processing that happened before it. No special-category data is requested.
Mail sent to [email protected] is kept long enough to answer and to fix the page, then deleted when the thread is done, unless a rights dispute requires a longer copy. You can ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion by emailing that address, and you can complain to a supervisory authority where you live. A material change updates the date at the top of this page and the summary sentence.
